Practice Makes Progress – Part 1

Bitesize takeaways from my personal practice.

As I’ve wound my way through my own self-healing practice, and my energy practitioner studies, certain key lessons have left a big impression. These awarenesses continue to propel me forward in my personal work and also have a strong impact on the way that I approach my work with clients.

This is part one of a multi-article series. I hope sharing some of my experiences encourages you, or at minimum piques your curiosity about how energy works, and how it could potentially work for you.

Perspective be Nimble

Perspective is a lens, a lens that is affixed to a pivot that can swivel to a vast circumference and pan out to a distance. Despite perception and feelings, we can become quite adept at maneuvering this lens. The power afforded by being able to access the true Observer state cannot be overemphasized.

There are myriad ways to practice becoming more nimble with this lens, to grease its wheels and further build one’s awareness muscles. I found this opportunity in my study of energy behavior and engaging in accompanying meditative practices. Incrementally and over time, I have been able to dissolve the various life and emotional cataracts that occluded my perspective.

By slowly building a conscious relationship with my energy system, I grew to understand the impact that this has on all aspects of my experience: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.  At risk of sounding exceedingly cliche, this is a choice that changed my life.

I am reminded of a quote from Richard Bach that has rung in my ears since I first read it, years ago while in college. The book still sits on my shelf.

“Perspective – Use It or Lose It.”

Now I know how to use it, for real. Hallelujah!

Embody to Create

Embodiment as a term has become more common in lay vernacular in recent years, and people have different approaches in their definition of what it is and how it can be achieved.

Suffice it to say that in energy work, embodiment is a core and vital concept, and one that will be broached at some point should we work in a session together.

Through my personal practice I have learned and felt the what, where, how and why of its importance. Beyond that, I have experienced that when the energy self is contained and regulated, and the debris that is old ‘stuff’ and stories has been cleared away, we move fairly effortlessly into what is our natural being state, one in which we by default flow to Create.

Self-integration begets absolute possibility. Hallelujah x 2!

I’ve had the immense good fortune of learning from two incredible energy healing practitioners and teachers, Jill Leigh and Ellen Donaldson. The point I am venturing to make is well summed up in the quote below as Jill describes her personal experience.

“I’m grounded. I’m strong. One of my early teachers shared an insight that lives in me to this day – the farther in your body you can go, the farther out of your body you can go. In other words, consciousness begins with embodiment. From embodied awareness, there are no limits. I am now and forever a student of consciousness, and my embodied self is able to access and harness powerful energies, constructs and resources because I am deeply at home within myself.”  – Jill Leigh (CanvasRebel)
